Blog Post – My Dream Race

I get asked frequently what my dream race is. If I was 20 years younger, it would be Badwater; that one I would want to do more than any other. But a race i could possibly do now, that answer changes depending on my mood.

That’s because before, I didn’t even know if I would be able to run again. Sure, hip replacements are thought of as routine surgery, but there’s always that chance that something could go wrong and mine would not take. I do know someone who wasn’t able to run after he had both his done. In his case, he also had major knee problems and my knees are fine. Knee issues are much more serious and more of a cause to stop running. Thankfully, that’s not on my playbook at the moment.

I don’t do as many races as most runners I know. The races I choose to do have to be pretty special. Most races I plan way ahead of time for because of money, race distance or time off. I’m now thinking ahead to 2024 and races longer than 50ks to see what I could possibly finish as my first 50 miler, 100k and 100 miler.

The possibilities are daunting, but so is the challenge of getting ready. But I will. I will figure out which races I’ll enter and forge ahead.

By the way, the bucket list races I’d love to do if I could include: London Marathon, Leadville 100, Hadrian’s Wall Ultra, Run Rabbit 100, Tahoe Rim Trail 100, CIM once more. I know there are more I’m forgetting. But there’s so many races and so many I’m thirsting to do!

But it’s time to get back to work.
